Happy Monday Everyone!
After reading Courtney's blog on friday I got inspired to look back at the basics. Alot of people are very overwhelmed when they step in our store and do not know where to begin. The first thing that I tell them is that Scrapbooking is all about personal preference. But there are a few basic must haves and there is more than one way to use these basics!
Scissors- who would have thought those things would be so darn important? While a paper trimmer is great for cutting straight lines, what about doing creative edges? While many people think that the days of decorative scissors has come and gone, the opposite is quite true. The once tacky scissors can look great if used in a modest way. Check out Design Team Member Donette's use in this layout:
Adhesive- not just for sticking your photos on cardstock!A good adhesive is necessary when scrapbooking if you want your pages to last for years and years but as I tell customers again it is about personal preference, there is disposable, refillable, temporary, liquid and much more. Play around and find one that suits all your needs. While playing around why not try making designs with your glue and using glitter or flock to add something special to your page. Stix2 PVA glue allows you to make designs and then place foil over top to create a shiny 3D effect.
Paper- While paper is the backbone of scrapbooking it can also be used as an embellishment itself. I get alot of people ask why cover such a pretty piece of paper up? My answer: DON'T. Use either the paper inserts that come with your page protectors or regular cardstock for the back of your page and use that gorgeous paper as decoration. Cut strips or circles and add around your photos. That way those beautiful papers will be seen and they will go alot further.
Lastly: need more ideas? Check out the series from Canadian Scrapbooker- Basics for a wide range of tips and techniques!
So my challenge for this week is to use your supplies, and try to use them in a new and different way!
Until next week,
Always, Amanda
